A focused practice

Immi Lawyers was built around a single focus: helping couples navigate the immigration process when one partner is a foreign national. We don't handle employment visas, asylum cases, or the full sweep of general immigration work. Instead, our attention stays on marriage and fiancé immigration, from the first petition through a spouse's green card.

Our team brings together US immigration law practice with genuine, firsthand experience in Australian migration law, giving us a broader perspective on what it actually takes for a couple to navigate two different countries' immigration systems at once. That's not a common combination in this field, and it shapes how we approach every case.

Nicholas Merlin has been a member of the Florida Bar since 2006 and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals Bar since 2007. He holds a Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law, a Master of Public Administration from Florida State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, also from Florida State University.

With 15 years of experience in United States law and public administration, Nick brings a depth of cross-jurisdictional legal expertise to Immi Lawyers. Since 2021, he has also practiced migration law in Australia, giving him firsthand insight into the immigration systems of both countries, valuable experience for couples navigating a partner's transition from an Asian home country into the US system.

Having personally navigated the immigration process himself, Nick brings both professional expertise and a genuine understanding of what clients experience throughout their case.

Perry Q Wood is Immediate Past President of the Australian Institute of Administrative Law and a former Senior Member of Australia's Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) and a Bachelor of Business Studies from Monash University, a Bachelor of Commerce (Law) from Curtin University, and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law.

Perry brings decades of Australian migration and administrative law experience to Immi Lawyers as a consulting migration lawyer, working alongside Nick on cases involving complex cross-border family circumstances. He is not admitted to practice law in the United States.

Consulting Migration Lawyer — Australian-Qualified

Sam Prasad holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne, following a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Criminology from the same university. She practices Australian migration law, with a focus on primary and appeal visa applications and citizenship pathways, and speaks Malayalam and Thai.

Sam consults with Immi Lawyers on cases involving partners from Thailand and South Asia, working alongside Nick on the US side of each case. She is not admitted to practice law in the United States.
